Use coastal inspired fabrics in your interior decorating and bring a bit of your holiday back to your home!
If you have been following me for a while you will know that much of my work is inspired by my love of the coast. I have a passion for the seaside. I love the smells, the sounds and of course the incredibly diverse flora and fauna. I have so many plans and ideas that it frustrates me not to have explored them yet, so you can expect to see more and more designs added to my coastal collections over the coming years!
We are lucky enough to go to the coast in all seasons when we visit my family, but now is the time when most of us a really thinking of the sea while we plan our summer holidays, if like me, you want to bring a bit of the seaside home with you, you will want your house to reflect the things you love about the sea. Why not bring a bit of bright, fresh seaside atmosphere to your inland home?!
In my home, I have cushions with my crab print, mackerel cushions and of course several bunches of my stuffed mackerel hanging in the kitchen, someone once told me my home felt like a holiday house, I took that as a compliment, how lovely to feel like you are on holiday at home, a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday living!
I have recently been experimenting with digital print to realise my designs. My first love will always be hand printing, block and screen, but sometimes there is a requirement for longer lengths of fabric that I struggle to print effectively in my studio space. So, I have decided to have two lines. I will always have a collection of hand printed, handmade products – a valuable ‘unique selling point’ for my business! but also a range of printed fabrics developed from my original lino print designs that I can get printed to order in any length. This will enable people to use the fabrics for blinds and curtains as well as the cushions and lampshades that I will continue to produce.
I am currently working on a collection of designs influenced by patterned tiles, there are some exquisite examples to be found – check out pinterest! They lend themselves very well to lino prints and I love the way they repeat and interlock, making the design flow but still retaining the tiled look. I hope to be launching these at the end of the summer.
Meanwhile, enjoy your summer and gather inspiration from your adventures to fill your home with loveliness!
